DAKIN ROY - NIGHT MOVES 5
Dakin Roy is a photographer who lives and works in the Hudson Valley. His work is eclectic, compelling and rich - his compositions are strong and painterly. In addition to his great eye, he wisely figured out a way to mount the photographs so there is no need for framing. We are very psyched to be working with him.
"Night Moves is a study of urban commercial spaces both current and abandoned. Concentration is on the often sterile, stilted landscape of modern architecture and living. Train stations, mall parking lots, and other commercial buildings are the focus.
These images are photographed at night using long exposures, highlighting the odd isolation and desolation of these spaces without human inhabitants. The saturated, colorful industrial lighting adds a touch of the artificial to the banal concrete.
The lighting and stark landscapes carry a narrative about the modern urban landscape, which tends to focus on efficiency and functionality over beauty and formal considerations. There is also an emotional detachment associated with the compartmentalized, sterile scenes depicted that reflects our current modern state of increased avenues of communications with diminishing returns and relevance."
